Non-subsidized LPG Prices Soar, Strangling Residents and MSMEs by Energy Costs--

KORANPAGARALAMPOS.COM - The increase in non-subsidized LPG prices has once again come under public scrutiny in April 2026.

A significant surge in the prices of Bright Gas in 12 kg and 5.5 kg sizes has triggered complaints from both households and small business owners.

This situation is seen as increasingly burdensome amid economic pressures that have not yet fully recovered, especially for small enterprises that heavily depend on affordable energy.

Based on the latest data, the price of 12 kg Bright Gas in Java has now reached around Rp228,000 per cylinder, up from the previous Rp192,000.

This means there has been an increase of Rp36,000 within a relatively short period. In some remote areas such as Papua, prices have even soared to Rp285,000 per cylinder.

This significant price disparity is largely influenced by distribution challenges and high logistics costs.

The main cause of this increase in non-subsidized LPG prices is closely tied to the surge in global crude oil prices.

Geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have become one of the dominant factors driving global energy prices upward. The impact has extended downstream, including the LPG prices used in daily life.

This condition has serious implications, particularly for households and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Many small culinary businesses such as food stalls, fried snack vendors, and home catering services are being forced to find ways to reduce operational costs.

Some have even started to raise their product prices, which ultimately places an additional burden on consumers.

A number of people have also begun switching to the government-subsidized 3 kg LPG cylinders.
